THE NIGHTINGALES (UK)

Birminghams erste Punk Band, die Prefects, waren Teil von The Clashs „White Riot Tour“, nahmen John Peel Sessions auf und erhielten hervorragende Rezensionen von Medien wie dem Rolling Stone. Nach ihrer Trennung wurde die Band The Nightingales gegründet. John Robb beschreibt sie in seinem Standardwerk über Post Punk („Death To Trad Rock“) als „The misfits’ misfits“, die in den 80er Jahren Kultstatus in der Musikszene genossen und von John Peel unterstützt wurden. Peel sagte über sie: „Ihre Grandiosität wird erst in einer Zeit weit nach den Achtzigern gewürdigt werden, wenn wir mit der nötigen Distanz auf diese Zeit zurückschauen können und sich andere, weitaus bekanntere Bands, als Scharlatane herausstellen werden.

Im Jahr 2025 erschien ihr aktuelles Album „The Awful Truth“. Für 2026 ist bereits ein Nachfolger geplant!

Nach der Veröffentlichung von „The Awful Truth“, wurde die Band offiziell durch die wunderbare Bratschistin Natalie Mason verstärkt, die zuvor bereits als Gastmusikerin auf der Bühne und bei Aufnahmen mitgewirkt hatte. 

Fast auf den Tag genau drei Jahre später kehrt die fünfköpfige Band im Herbst 2026 auf die Bühne der Manufaktur zurück!
